Alan Roy Hocking on Affiliate Marketing Online and Wealthy Affiliate
Alan Roy Hocking is a successful Internet Marketer, Personal business coach, and Active Member of The Wealthy Affiliate University. Here’s our interview.
Alan and I have known each other for a little over a year, and I am always impressed with his online success and branding skills over on his blog.
I have a lot of questions for Alan, so let’s get to it!
Alan, You spent most of your adult life being in Direct Sales or consulting new reps in various Direct selling companies. Have you ever held a traditional job at any time during those 30 years, and if so what was it and how did you get out of it?
“I was actually a hard rock miner before I got into direct sales.
When they started closing the tin mines down I was chosen by the company to set up job centers on all the sites in my area and organize a team to help the older miners find work in new fields.
It was a great opportunity for me and one that changed my life forever as the company paid for me to go on several courses to study psychology and build my people skills before I set up my redeployment centers.
The move into career coaching just developed naturally from there really.”
I’m fascinated that you live in Europe, it just sounds exotic. What country are you residing in currently, and where did you grow up?
“I was born in England but went out to Spain for a twelve month break in 1999 and just fell in love with the place.”
You’ve been a successful internet marketer since 2010. What did you start promoting online, and when did you start finding some results?
“I actually started blogging back in 2005 when my twin daughters were born just as a bit of fun.
I have always loved writing and my first blog was a rather basic and somewhat ugly thing built on the blogger platform as a journal of the ups and downs and so often comical side to raising twins which I eventually turned into my first eBook.
I didn’t know anything about internet marketing back then or that you could actually make a living doing it, it was just a hobby that I enjoyed doing in my spare time.”
You mostly do Affiliate marketing, but can you tell us some of the pros and cons of Affiliate Marketing versus network Marketing?
“I actually like Network Marketing and think that MLM is a very good business model as long as you are part of a reputable company that has plenty of training and support to teach you how to brand/market yourself properly and a consumable product that will guarantee repeat orders.
I prefer Affiliate Marketing because in most cases it can be started with zero outlay and you don’t need to recruit or build a down-line to produce a six figure income.
My affiliate marketing business now runs almost totally on autopilot 24/7/365 meaning I get to spend the maximum amount of quality time with my family that I certainly couldn’t have done if I had stayed in direct sales or gone into Network Marketing as you are constantly looking for or chasing your next lead and sale.”
You also are a popular author on Amazon. One book that stood out (because I’m a Law of Attraction junkie) is your “The Creative Laws” book. Can you tell us about some of the “universal laws” that people are governed by?
“In my opinion there really is only one universal law and that is The law of Gratitude”
“If you life your life with what I like to call “My Gratitude Attitude” then by the very precise and exact nature of the Law of Attraction you will fill your life with an abundance of things to be grateful for.”
“I’m actually working on my next Law of Attraction book right now which will be a follow up to the Creative Laws and is based on the Law of Gratitude.”
“I’ll let you know when it’s published.”
You promote Wealthy Affiliate on your blog. What’s the difference between Empower Network and Wealthy Affiliate and which one do you prefer and for what reasons?
” I’ve just published an article about that on my blog so your best to go and read it there.”
How old is your blog, how many posts are on it, and what kind of leads is it generating only a daily basis?
“My main site is only about 4 years old and to be honest I haven’t done a lot with it yet as my coaching practice is taking up most of my time.”
“There’s only 20 pages and 70 posts on there to date but it produces a regular stream of income and leads daily so I’m happy with the way it’s going for now.”
What’s been your biggest lead generator on your blog?
My free copy of “The Beginners Guide to Affiliate Marketing”
What’s been the easiest SEO hack that you’ve done on your blog that created the most results?
“Writing articles on a regular basis.”
You offer internet marketing coaching. What kind of packages or services do you provide?
“I actually offer free coaching to anyone who joins Wealthy Affiliate through my website.
What are your goals for 2017?
“My two major goals for 2017 are to finish my latest book and help as many people as possible become financially independent.”
What’s your favorite quote and why?
“You may never know what results come from your actions but if you do nothing there will be no results!” Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi
I unfortunately have a lot of people coming to me for coaching who have been blinded by the “Instant Push Button Overnight Millionaire Scams” that are so rampant on the internet these days and they truly believe that they can build a six figure business online by just plugging into some magic system and sitting back to watch their bank account fill up.
It’s usually a major shock to their systems when I gently point out to them that building any sort of business online or offline takes determination, time and a lot of hard work and that they will probably not see any returns on all of the work they have to put in at the beginning for at least six to twelve months.
I then like to add that if they are willing to do what nobody else will do for the next twelve months, they’ll be able to do what nobody else can do for the rest of their lives!
Thanks so much Alan for this interview!
Thank you Erik, it’s been my pleasure! 🙂
