Dereco Cherry on MLM Leads and Video Marketing for Blogging
Dereco Cherry is a leading network marketer who uses blogging and video to get massive leads. Here’s my interview with Dereco.
It’s been over a year since I spotlighted your successful blog in my article Top 80 MLM Bloggers. I bet a lot has happened in your life since then, so let’s get to it!
How old is your blog, how many posts do you have, and are you still blogging today?
First let me say what an honor it is to do this interview with you Erik, thanks for doing it!
Wow it has been over year since that article was published, time sure does fly!
I got started with online marketing back in 2009. But didn’t actually buy my domain name until a year later. I had my name I just didn’t take blogging seriously at the time which was a big mistake.
I got serious about blogging about a year and a half ago and have right at 200 published blog post at the time of this interview (I’m not going to say how may I have in drafts lol.) I’m working on picking up the pace with how often I blog.
Yes, I’m still blogging today with no plans to stop anytime soon.
When I first got started, it was tough for me to put a post together. I struggled big time with it but the more I kept doing it the easier it has become. I actually enjoy writing out my post now.
There is nothing like getting an email from someone telling you thank you or how much your post has helped them. That’s one of the key things that keeps me going.
How is the traffic to your blog and do you get leads consistently from your blog?
Traffic, has been on the rise. As you know getting results from blogging takes time. I actually saw very little traffic my first three months of blogging. Now I average around 1k visitors per day and it’s steady going up.
Yes, I get a consistent lead flow as well.
I’m averaging around 3-5 leads per day, sometimes more. It’s pretty cool now, I sometimes wake up and I’ll have an inbox of leads that has come in overnight.
That’s one of the powers of blogging. Those post stay out there working for you around the clock!
Are you promoting just MLM with your blog, or do you also promote Affiliate Products?
I don’t promote any MLM on my site. I think in this day and time people should be promoting themselves.
MLM companies come and go but you are the one constant. I think this is why so many people fail at network marketing because they are out here just promoting their company.
Brand yourself and you can build whatever mlm business you want.
I don’t promote a lot of different affiliate products but I do have a few that are on my site.
I only promote products that are congruent with my target audience and I usually only promote something if I own the course and think it would be useful to them.
So, you’ve been in network marketing since 2006. That’s a long time. Was it with just one MLM or did you jump around like a lot of other network marketers do in the beginning?
Yep, it was just one MLM. I don’t like to jump around to different companies. I like to plant my feet somewhere and get to work. The only reason I left my first company was because it was shut down and I had no choice.
I think jumping around especially in the beginning is where so many people mess up. They think they need to change to a better company when in fact they are the ones who need to get better.
They need to get better with their skills. If you have crappy skills it won’t matter what company you go to, you still won’t be able to build it.
Work on your communication and marketing skills and you can go and build whatever company you want is the way I see it.
What kept you going during the hard times in network marketing?
I think knowing where I want to be has kept me going and the fact I understand you can’t build an empire overnight.
Sometimes network marketing gets the bad rap of being a get rich thing. I understand that’s not how it works for most people. I know, if I stay the course follow proven business building steps I’ll get there.
What was the biggest lesson you learned from the hardships in MLM?
The biggest thing I learned is there will be ups and downs. If you are riding a hot streak and people are joining you left and right, it won’t be like that forever.
You have to take the good and bad with mlm. Also a lesson I learned is not everyone is good for your team. This is one of the cool things about mlm is you can pick and choose who YOU want to work with.
You seem to do a lot of video on your blog. This is something I just started. What are some of the benefits of adding video to your blog posts?
Video has been the game changer for me.
With video content for starters you can get your point across in a way you just can’t with words. Your audience will start to feel like they know you through video. You can also tap into additional traffic sources.
For example, you can get traffic from YouTube and from the search engines when you embed that video in your blog post.
Another benefit of video is you serve two different types of people the ones who prefers to read things and some who consume their content through video.
I remember shooting my very first video on my Blackberry smartphone, I was a nervous wreck doing it but I pushed through anyway and just like blogging the more I did them the easier they started to become. I would highly suggest anyone that is blogging to strongly consider adding video.
You have an ebook that discusses the 5 steps of video marketing. Could you touch on that briefly?
Ah yes, my video marketing ebook, I’ve had a ton of people tell me how much it has helped them.
Video has been such a key part of the success I’ve had online and I wanted to pass along the information that has helped me.
It’s a simple 5 step process that I follow with all my videos. I won’t give out the exact steps (you’ll have to opt in to get that lol,) but they are easy enough that anyone can implement them and get results.
If someone is new to MLM and wants to do everything through blogging, what would you tell them?
Depends, you can build an empire through bloggings. Will it happen overnight? Nope!
I think there needs to be a mixture of offline and online techniques to build your mlm business, if you are just starting out I would suggest offline first while you build up your online presence through blogging.
Blogging is a long term strategy, the number one goal with blogging is to generate leads.
This won’t happen overnight like I’ve mentioned earlier so you have to go out there and drum up your own leads until your marketing kicks in.
What are your goals for 2017?
I like to break my goals down into smaller ones but some of my bigger goals is to increase the amount of content I put into the market.
I want to continue to get better with my marketing and just my overall communication with people.
Another big goal of mine for next year is to get my coaching program going. I’m putting some things in place now to have that launched sometime next year.
What’s your favorite business quote, and why?
There are so many great quotes out there but this is one of my favorite ones: “Believe that you will succeed—and you will.” –Dale Carnegie.
Your success starts with your mindset. You have to see yourself being successful in whatever you are doing before it will happen. You have the power to make things happen with just your thoughts.
Erik, thanks again for doing this interview. I hope my answers inspired your audience in some way shape or form to go out there and make it happen for themselves!
